Is it time to change your concealer?

Concealers are a must-have makeup product. They are used to hide imperfections such as blemishes, acne, rosacea, under-eye circles, and even skintone flaws.

Concealers are usually selected based on the skin area they are aiming to cover. For example, those with darker skintones may need a lighter concealer to cover blemishes or acne as they may already have a matching concealer in their makeup collection.

Having a good undereye concealer is also important as it can help hide dark circles or wrinkles under the eye.

Choose a luxury brand

If you want the best concealer, then look no further than the top beauty brands. These brands have great products that work well and last all day.

Luxury brands like Chanel, Armani, NARS, and Givenchy produce excellent concealers that will not let you down. You can usually count on the quality of luxury brands.

If you are not ready to invest in a luxury concealer, then try buying a set of trial ones from Sephora! You can get multiples in different skin tones and see which works best on under-eye circles.

Choose a mid-range brand

While luxury brands do produce quality products, there are some pretty common flaws in their products.

Luxury brands tend to use less diverse shade ranges for their makeup offerings. They also tend to price their products higher based on the brand name and marketing.

For instance, more popular brands such as Sephora and Zoeva do not have very many concealers offered in a deep shade. Instead, they offer lighter concealers that will not match most people’s skin.

Instead, go for a mid-range brand such as Tarte or Benefit. Both of these companies offer a variety of shades for their concealers that match most people’s skin tones.

General tip: Avoid buying concealers that are very light or very dark unless you know your skin tone is nearer to that color.

Purchase both a liquid and powder concealer

Even if you do not need concealer, it is a good idea to have it just in case. Concealers can be used to cover spots, under-eye circles, blemishes, and some people use them as foundation.

Many say that you should purchase a moisturizing concealer that matches your skin tone for under-eye use, but i’ve always liked the creamier concealers for spot covering!

Concealers can get expensive, and it is probably not worth spending a ton of money on a high-quality one if you do not really need it.

Try using a color-correcting primer beforehand

While concealing is important, even more important is prepping your face before applying any concealer. Primer is your best friend when it comes to covering up dark circles!

Many of the best primers contain color-correcting agents that address the underlying causes of dark circles. Some of these agents are green pigment that neutralize reddish discolorations, a yellow one that tackles sallowness, and silver ones that suppress shininess.

If you find yourself running out of time to conceal, try using a primer! Primers can also help concealers stick to the skin better, and helps improve coverage.

Pick up your tools from the drugstore

While many beauty enthusiasts will say that BeautyBlender is the best sponge, many others will tell you to avoid it due to its expensive price tag. Luckily, there are many dupe sponges that BeautyBlender fans can opt for to save some money.

Many drugstore brands have come out with great quality sponges that work just as well as BeautyBlender. Some of these brands are Revlon, Real Techniques, and Sephora Collection.

If you are looking to purchase a beauty sponge, then I recommend trying out one of the drugstore ones first to see if you like the application and texture it gives.

Use a soft brush or finger to apply the concealer

Once you have the right color and texture concealer, you need to know how to apply it. Many people just use their fingers to put the concealer on, but that can be messy and take longer to set. A soft brush works well too, just make sure it is clean!

Either way, experiment and see what works best for you!

To save time and avoid excess concealer being deposited on your face, try putting then concealer on the back of your (clean) hand first.

General tips: Try using two shades of concealer: one that is slightly darker than your skin tone and one that is slightly lighter.

Blend gently with a sponge or brush

Undereye concealers are a bit more tricky to apply than regular concealers. The area is usually very sensitive and prone to irritation.

Many people with dark under-eye circles say that it is hardest to cover them up when they are exhausted. Thebest way to cover them up is to use a lighter concealer shade and blend it out gently.

A trick many beauty gurus use is to mix your under-eye concealer with a lighter highlighting product. This creates a more natural look as the highlight blends in with the rest of the face.

Concealers can be very drying, so make sure to moisturize well before applying makeup! A good primer canalso help keep your skin soft and smooth.

When blending out your under-eyeconcealer, be gentle with your brush or sponge strokes. Pulling down too hard can pull down the top layer of skin, exposing the darker underneath.

Use multiple layers if needed

Even if you find the perfect under-eye concealer, it may take several layers to cover your dark circles. That is totally okay!

Many people do not want to apply multiple layers of makeup because it can look or feel heavy on the skin. Both of these feelings are not ideal, since makeup is meant to enhance your skin!

Makeup artists sometimes advise using a lighter concealer first, then building up the coverage with a darker one. This way, you get all the coverage you need without feeling or looking heavy.

Alternatively, you can use a concealer that is close to your skin tone for this same effect. Mixing them together can also help you get the coverage you need without adding extra layers of product.

I hope these tips helped you on your search for the right concealer! Thanks for stopping by,

Kelly 😎
