Uh oh – I tried this luxury brand’s makeup and skincare products….and I love them!

Who doesn’t love finding a new (or new to you) product that solves your most annoying beauty issues?  With so many makeup and skincare products, that elusive “made just for me” item can be hard to find.  When they are a drugstore brand at a drugstore price point, it’s feels like winning the lottery.  But when it is a luxury product, we wince and try to make it work in our budget.  This month, I unfortunately found two luxury items that exceeded expectations, from the brand Chantecaille.

The Chantecaille Brand

According to their website, “Sylvie Chantecaille launched her eponymous company with her daughter Olivia in 1998. Together they pioneered a new landscape of natural beauty with products powered by high concentrations of pure botanicals and soothing, plant-based ingredients—the basis of a global brand that the entire Chantecaille family now collaborates on.”  They also include a helpful pronunciation guide: (How do you say it? Shawn-te-kai!)  Their skincare begins with the rare Rose de Mai, and rosewater is the first ingredient.

I became aware of the brand through a YouTube influencer, Nikol Johnson (@nikoljohnson), who was using the Rose de Mai Eye Lift.  I was intrigued by the applicator tip – it looked like it would have a cooling effect while depositing the gel like cream around the eyes.  I promptly went to the website to research the product and possibly purchase but hit the brakes when I saw the price tag of $140.  Yikes!  I have very dry eyelids, top and bottom, and have worked this past year to hydrate that area so I can wear concealer without pilling or caking.  It has been a struggle, but I have made progress by using moisturizer and/or petroleum jelly on the lids at night.  But I am always looking for the next best thing in hydration of the delicate eye area.  With a birthday coming up, I decided to treat myself and see if luxury products would live up to the price tag.  I chose two eye products for my test.

CHANTECAILLE ROSE DE MAI EYE LIFT -  .5 fluid ounces. $140

Chantecaille’s skincare starts with the rare Rose de Mai

This is a silky eye gel infused with botanicals and claims to reduce signs of puffiness, dark circles, and fine lines.  The unique cooling applicator acts to massage the area while applying.  One pump of the applicator provides enough product for both eyes.  I blend it on the upper and lower lids, and the cool, massaging effect feels great on my puffy eyes.  I let this dry down slightly before applying concealer.  The formula is lightweight yet hydrating and feels great on my skin. Chantecaille claims this product “provides an instant lift while visibly reducing the signs of eye aging - puffiness, dark circles and fine lines.” I’m not sure it completely solved my eye area issues, but I do like the product and feel it does a decent job at making my eyes look better.

CHANTECAILLE ANTI-FATIGUE CORRECTOR PEN - .06 fluid ounces $56

Use the brush to apply, or your finger.

Because of my dry eyelids, dark circles, and puffiness, I purchase and test a lot of concealers.  Honestly, I wasn’t in the market for a luxury brand concealer when I have a drawer full of concealers at home.  But here is what happened:  I was in Nordstrom and the salesperson put this concealer on my under eye after applying the Eye Lift.  I kept waiting for it to crease, cake or otherwise do what concealers normally do on me.  I walked around the cosmetics area, looked at other brands, and kept checking my under eyes in the mirror.  It did not crease!  It didn’t cake!  Wow!

This is a light reflecting and ultra-moisturizing concealer to blur your imperfections and “plump the appearance (of) fine lines.”  The applicator is a click pen type with a brush head.  You can click and then use the brush to apply, though I always place the concealer on my fingertip first, then tap onto the skin.  I leave it a moment to dry down then completely tap in for a beautiful finish.  I have been so happy with my results, and believe it is the synergy of the Rose de Mai Eye Lift with the concealer that is my holy grail for my undereye.  This is not a full coverage type concealer, it is somewhat sheer so you may like a color corrector before applying. With my under eye issues, light coverage works best.

The Verdict

Will I repurchase these products when they run out?  As of today I would definitely say yes.  But will 2023 bring a different luxury product combination that could work for me?  It is possible, but I don’t anticipate that happening for two reasons:  I don’t have a luxury department store near me where I can test before buying, and with the price point I don’t want to purchase online and risk losing money if it doesn’t work for me.  This recent purchase worked because I was traveling and had the opportunity to visit Nordstrom and the salesperson was very knowledgeable and chose the right products for me.  This doesn’t always happen, but the stars aligned that day for me.

Will you try Chantecaille?  What products interest you?

I hope this information was helpful to you.  Enjoy, and remember to always wear sunscreen!
